Margo

A voice journal that talks back.

Margo is an AI voice journal with a quiet companion. Talk about your day, and it writes a clean entry in your own words. Then it says one thing back about what you actually said.

Coming to the App StoreNot released yet. There is nothing to sign up for.

iPhone only. iOS 26.5 or later. Recordings never leave your phone.

Pricing page, annual or monthly first

I keep going back and forth on which plan the page should lead with. The real problem is that I do not know who is buying.

Margo says: You said you don’t know who’s buying. Which of the two did you picture when you wrote the first draft?

Margo the rabbit, waving hello

Thinking is easier out loud. Say how the day went, or whatever is on your mind. Margo writes it into your journal, tidies it up, and brings the best of it back to you.

You say something messy. It says something back.

Other voice apps stop at the transcript. The entry is where Margo starts. Here is one real-shaped thought, end to end.

1:12, walking

“Okay so, umm. The thing with the pricing page is that. Hmm. I keep going back and forth on whether we lead with the annual or, or the monthly, and honestly I think, I think the reason I keep flip-flopping is I don’t actually know who’s buying it. Like. Is it the person who already knows they want it, or is it someone who’s, you know, still deciding. What else. Oh, and I told Sam I’d have the numbers by Thursday, which. Yeah. That’s happening.”

Turned into text on your phone. The audio stays there.

WorkToday, 9:41

Pricing page, annual or monthly first

I keep going back and forth on whether the pricing page should lead with the annual plan or the monthly one.

The reason for the flip-flopping is that I do not know who is actually buying. It could be someone who already knows they want it, or someone who is still deciding. Those are two different pages.

  • Send Sam the numbers by Thursday
Open question

Margo says: You said you don’t know who’s buying. Which of the two did you picture when you wrote the first draft?

The question stays open and comes back the next morning, at the top of your journal. You answer it by speaking again, and that answer joins the same thread.

Still openThe next morning

Margo says: You said you don’t know who’s buying. Which of the two did you picture when you wrote the first draft?

An illustration of the loop, not a screenshot. Every entry is different, and so is every question.

Four steps, and you only do one of them.

  1. Margo the rabbit listening, ears up

    You speak

Talk about your day, or whatever is on your mind. If you are stuck, today's page has a prompt waiting. Margo only records while the page is open, and turns speech into text on the iPhone wherever it supports that.

  2. Margo the rabbit writing with an oversized pencil

    It writes it down

The rambling comes back as a journal entry with a title, tidied prose, a category, and any to-dos you mentioned pulled out into a list.

  3. Margo the rabbit with head tilted, curious

    It says one thing back

One remark or one question about what you actually said. Not a summary of it. Not five suggestions. One.

  4. Margo the rabbit leaning in toward the page

    It brings the question back

If it was a question, it stays open. It comes back the next morning at the top of your journal, and as a notification if you want one. You answer it by speaking again.

Made for thinking while moving.

Margo is built for people who think out loud, whether that is halfway through a walk or at the end of a long day.

Walking

Your best lines arrive at the third block, not at the keyboard. By the time you sit down, the good half of it is gone.

Driving

Forty minutes of thinking with both hands occupied. You either say it out loud or you lose it at the exit.

Around the house

Halfway through something else, holding a thought you cannot write down. Say it and put the phone back in your pocket.

Late at night

The idea that will not let you sleep, which never survives being typed in the dark. Speak it and it is handled.

A question waits until you answer it.

When Margo asks you something, it does not disappear when you close the app. The entry stays marked as open, and the question comes back the next morning, at the top of your journal, until you say something back.

If you allow notifications, it arrives as one at the start of your day. Not a number in a red circle. The question itself, which you can answer by speaking. With private notifications on, it arrives as “Margo left you a question” and the words wait inside the app.

  • Reminders you choose. From 1 to 24 a day, spread across the hours you pick. The evening one looks after your streak.
  • A streak that forgives. One missed day each week is covered by a rest day, so a single skip never breaks it. Goals of 7, 14, 30, or 50 days, and a calendar of the month.
  • A letter every week. Once a week holds two or more entries, Margo writes you a short letter reading it back.
  • Today's page. A prompt on Home for the days you do not know where to start, a look back at what you said a month ago today, and a Home Screen widget with your streak and the day's prompt.

All of it is free. Reminders are off until you turn them on. If you step away, they get fewer, and after 30 days they stop entirely. Guilt is not a feature.

An illustration of a journal after a few months. Not real entries.

One thought, several shapes.

An entry is finished the moment it is written. These are for when you want a different version of the same thinking.

  • Summary

The whole entry in a few lines, for when you need the shape of it and not the detail.

  • Main points

The argument pulled apart into its parts, in the order they matter.

  • Business idea

The thought turned into a proposition, with the obvious questions asked of it.

The one sentence worth saying in public, cut down to fit.

  • To-do list

Everything you committed to while talking, gathered into a list you can tick.

  • Take it elsewhere

Copy any entry, or export the whole journal, as markdown. With Plus, translate a finished entry into around 140 languages.

Free covers creations on 3 entries in total. Plus covers every entry.

Speak one language, write in another.

Say it however it comes out. Margo writes the entry in the language you spoke, or keeps your whole journal in a different one if you would rather read it that way. Useful if you think in one language and live in another.

  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
  • Danish
  • Norwegian
  • Finnish

A finished entry can also be translated into around 140 languages. Writing in a different language and translation are both part of Plus.

Margo the rabbit surrounded by different languages

Your recordings stay on your phone.

A journal is the most private thing on your phone. Margo keeps the recordings on it, and only the words travel, with nothing attached that says who you are.

Recordings never leave the phone

Your audio is written to the app's own storage and stays there. It is not uploaded and not synced, not to Burrow Studio, not to iCloud, not to anyone.

Speech is recognized on the iPhone

Wherever the device supports on-device recognition, Apple's Speech framework turns your words into text on the phone itself. On supported iPhones that covers all eight launch languages.

Only the text goes out, with no name on it

The transcript is sent to be written up as an entry, and the request carries no account id. Your entries are not used to train any AI model.

A lock, if you want one

Lock the journal with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. iOS does the check, so the app never sees biometric data, and the app switcher shows nothing.

Private notifications

Turn them on and reminders never show your entries or questions on the Lock Screen. The words wait inside the app.

No tracking of any kind

No advertising identifier, no ad networks, no third-party trackers. This website carries no analytics script either, which is why there is no cookie banner.

Where your journal lives, said plainly

On your phone, and in your own iCloud if iCloud is on. Entries, to-dos, creations, and weekly letters sync through your private iCloud database, so the journal follows you to a new phone, and Burrow Studio cannot read it. Recordings are the one thing that never syncs, so a new phone gets every written entry but not the audio. Markdown export works at any time.

The companion is free, and it stays free.

The things that make Margo what it is, the question after every entry, the questions coming back, and the habit around them, are free forever. Your first entry every day is always free, so a streak never meets a paywall. Plus sells room, not the friend. More entries, longer recordings, more languages.

Margo the rabbit, holding a card

The things worth knowing first.

Which devices does Margo run on?

iPhone only, on iOS 26.5 or later. There is no iPad app, no Mac app, no Android app, no Apple Watch app, and no web version. If any of those arrive they will be announced. None is promised.

What happens to my recordings?

They stay on your phone. Recordings are never uploaded and never synced, not even to your own iCloud.

Speech is recognized on the iPhone itself wherever the device supports on-device recognition, which covers all eight launch languages on supported iPhones. Only the resulting transcript text is sent out, so it can come back as a tidy entry, and it is sent with no user id attached. The full account is on the privacy page.

Does my journal sync?

Yes, through your own iCloud. When iCloud is on for your iPhone, your entries, to-dos, creations, and weekly letters sync through your own private iCloud database, so the journal follows you to a new phone. Burrow Studio cannot read that database.

Recordings are the exception. They never sync and never leave the phone they were made on, so a new phone gets every written entry but not the audio. If iCloud is off, the journal stays on this phone only. Markdown export works at any time either way.

Can I lock it?

Yes. Turn on the lock in Settings, under Privacy, and Margo asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode each time you come back to it. iOS does the check, so the app never sees your face or fingerprint. The lock also hides the journal in the app switcher, and turning it on makes notifications private, so no entry shows on the Lock Screen.

How do reminders and streaks work? Can I turn them off?

Reminders are yours to set. You choose how many a day, from 1 to 24, and the hours they are spread across (9:00–21:00 unless you change it). The evening one looks after your streak. You can change them or turn them off in Settings at any time.

The streak counts the days you wrote anything, answers to Margo’s questions included. You can pick a goal of 7, 14, 30, or 50 days, and the streak page shows the month as a calendar. The streak sends nothing on its own. With reminders off, nothing about it reaches your phone.

Is Margo therapy?

No. Margo is a journal with a companion that asks questions. It is not a medical or therapy service, and nothing it writes is advice.

If an entry speaks of self-harm or crisis, Margo answers with care, points you to a directory of helplines at findahelpline.com, asks no question, and never brings it up again. If you are going through something heavy, please reach out to someone you trust or to a local helpline. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number.

Are my entries used to train any AI model?

No. Transcript text is sent to a structuring service to write the entry, and it is not used for model training. It carries no account id, so there is nothing attached to it that identifies you.

How does the free tier work?

Everything that makes Margo a journal is free forever. The companion’s question after every entry, open questions coming back, reminders, streaks, and the weekly letter are not paid features and never will be.

Your first entry every day is always free, so a streak never meets a paywall. On top of that, free gives you 15 extra entries per calendar month, recordings up to 3 minutes, and creations on 3 entries in total. Answering one of Margo’s questions never counts as an entry. Plus raises the limits. It does not unlock the companion.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Through Apple, not through Margo. Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Margo, then Cancel Subscription.

You keep Plus until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple.
